The Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) as part of its Statutory mandate as enshrined under its establishment law has the Authority and Power to arrest, detain, auction and prosecute offenders that violates any of the environmental laws in the State.
The Corps Marshal of LAGESC, CP Gbemisola Akinpelu (Retd ), made this known when she met with all the stakeholders in Lagos West Senatorial District to sensitise them on a culture of good environmental behaviour.
She said “Our communities are the heart and soul of Lagos. They are the places we call home, where our families grow, and where we forge lasting connection. It is within these communities that the power to make a difference truly resides.
And by engaging actively in environmental sanitation practices , together we can create a ripple effect that we can transform our neighbourhoods and ultimately our entire city. She stated that simple acts like proper waste disposal, recycling and regular cleaning of our surroundings can go a long way in preventing the spread of diseases, reduced pollution and preserved our natural resources.
The LAGESC Boss disclosed that with her officials and men they would do everything within their means to totally eradicate all forms of street , road side trading and also put an end to in between traffic hawkers as they pose a threat and danger to all road users.
She advised Lagosians not to see KAI as their enemy and urged market women and men to cooperate with them for smooth operation in the cause of carrying out their lawful duties in order to have a cleaner environment.
she added that the market women and men should stay at their respective shops, stalls and stores to attend to their various customers and make use of designate waste disposal areas to dump their refuse they generated in their various market place.
She concluded by saying; “we should always remember that the success of environmental sanitation and management in Lagos relies on the active involvement of our communities. Each one of us has a part to play, and together, we can make a significant impact. And by coming together we can inspire, change and build a brighter future for Lagos.
