Berlin (dpa) – The German army’s special forces are joining a new command structure, linking them up with special forces from some NATO countries.
A Special Operations Component Command (SOCC) has been established in Germany, Flotilla Admiral Stephan Plath told dpa. A first exercise by SOCC had involved 16 nations, he said.
Plath has been director of the German special forces in Schwielowsee near Potsdam since October 2021.
“We have further intensified cooperation with our multinational partners in recent months. This begins with the joint analysis of threat situations and includes, in particular, joint reconnaissance,” Plath said.
The Bundeswehr’s special forces include the army’s Special Forces Command (KSK), the navy’s combat swimmers and the air force’s Helicopter Squadron 64.
