Suspended Assistant Superintendent of Police, Drambi Vandi, who shot and killed a Lagos – Based Female lawyer, Bolanle Raheem has been remanded in Prison custody till January 30, 2023 by A Yaba Chief Magistrate Court after he appeared before the Court sitting in a Judicial Division of the State, on a one count charge of murder. It may be recalled that ASP Drambi Vandi attached to Ajiwe Police Station under the Lagos State Police Command, shot and killed Bolanle Raheem under the Ajah bridge while on their way out with her family for the Christmas Day celebration. Before the Court granted the plea, The Lagos State Attorney General, Moyosore Onigbanjo (SAN) who appeared for the State against the suspect had earlier sought for the remanding of ASP VANDI in prison pending the advice from the Director Of Public Prosecution (DPP) Lagos State. The A G who applied for the remand order and was subsequently granted, said that it was in pursuant to Section 264 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Lagos State, 2015 . A copy of the charge read that you Assistant Superintendent of Police Drambi Vandi on the 25 day of December, 2022 at Ajah Road, along Lekki Expressway unlawfully killed one Omobolanle Raheem by shooting her in the chest, contrary to section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. He submitted that the remand is necessary so as to allow the police to conclude proper investigation into the matter. He further stated on the copy of the charge “That You Assistant Superintendent of Police Drambi Vandi, on December 25, 2022 at Ajah Road, along Lekki Expressway, unlawfully killed one Omobolanle Raheem by shooting her in the chest contrary to section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 . The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Adebayo who presided over the case granted the request for remand order which is for 30 days pending Police investigation into the case, ordered that the case file be duplicated and sent to the Director Of Public Prosecution ( DPP ), Dr. Jide Martins for legal advice. She then adjourned the case till January 30, 2023 for review of the remand and to await the DPP’s advice.
