—– New Champion emerges at the end of todays final
As the 2024 WTA FINALS reaches its climax, American Coco Gauf seeded third battles 2024 Paris Olympic Gold Medalist, Chinese Qinwen Zheng seeded seven in the Final of the 2024 WTA FINALS which comes up later today at the King Saud University Indoor Arena, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
In the first Semi – final played yesterday in the Center Court at the same venue, Coco Gauf defeated World’s Number One and Australian, US Open Champions, Aryna Sabalenka in straight sets of 7 -6 (7-6), 6 – 3 to booked her place in the finals.
While in the second Semi – final also played yesterday at the Center Court of the same venue, Chinese Qinwen Zheng defeated Wimbledon Champion, Belarusian Barbora Krejcikova by 6 -3, 7 – 5 to play in the finals.
The 2024 WTA FINALS which is in its 53 edition will see the two of the youngest players on the women’s tour will battle to be crowned as champion for the first time in the history of this tournament.
COCO GAUF will be aiming to claim the WTA FINALS title on her third attempt, while QINWEN ZHENG will want to win her first title of this tournament.
During yesterday’s semi – final Zheng became the youngest player to played in the Semi – Finals at the WTA FINALS in her first appearance since Petra Kvitova in 2011 and also played in her seven semi – fina of the year and the first time Zheng has ever defeated TWO OF THE TOP 10 PLAYERS in the same calendar year.
World Number One, Aryna Sabalenka also became the first player since Serena Williams in 2013 – 2014 to reach consecutive WTA FINALS – Semi – Finals
In today’s Final, Qinwen Zheng after LI NA in 2013 becomes the second Chinese player to feature in the finals of this tournament and will be aiming to be the first player from her country to claim the title.
Out of the $15.25 Total prize money, the winners of the 2024 WTA FINALS – FINAL will go home with $4, 805.000 for her efforts.
Riyadh will have the privilege of hosting the next two edition of the WTA FINALS – Group Stages, Semi – Finals and Finals in 2025 and 2026.
