The National Missioner of Ansar – Ud – Deen Society of Nigeria and Overseas, His Eminent Sheikh Abdur Raman Ahmad made this known when he delivered a lecture titled LGBTQ: ‘PROTECTING THE SANCTITY OF UMMAH’ as Guest Speaker at the maiden ramadan lecture of the Nigeria Union of Journalists Lagos State Council held on nineteenth of this month at the Combo Hall of Lagos Television in Ikeja.
The respected cleric wants Government at all levels to fully implements the laws that will eradicate all form of immoral behaviours ( LGBTQ) across the country as stipulated in the ANTI – GAY Law that was recently passed by the National Assembly.
He further said that LGBTQ has become a deadly virus that has destroyed the fabric of the society and has also done a lot of damage in our various schools, offices, places of worship and different homes and that it is high time we find lasting solution to this menace.
Sheik Ahmad in strong terms condemned the United States of America, most European Countries and some African Countries that have been championing and propagating LGBTQ and liked their acts to the days of Sodom and Gomorrah.
He concluded that as Africans, our culture does not back, permit, respect nor have regards for those who practice and engage in LGBTQ.
In her own lecture at the event, Dr. ( Mrs) Aminat Ige – Ariyibi of the Department of Mathematics Lagos State University, Ojo who spoke on the topic MITIGATING MARITAL DISCORD OCCASIONED BY ECONOMIC CRISIS stated that effective communication, perseverance, love and kindness among couples should be the bedrock for a financial stress free and united family structure.
For smooth and peaceful running of the home, Dr. Ige – Ariyibi advised husband and wife to live and work together as one, assist each other financially and urged them to have respect and mutual understanding for each other.
The Chairman of the occasion, Professor Olarenwaju Fagbohun who was the immediate past Vice – Chancellor Lagos State University said the Media should recognised the strength and the critical roles the Constitution has placed on them in carrying out their day to day assignments which made them as the Fourth Estate of Realms, after the Executive, Legislature and the Judiciary.
Professor Fagbohun stated that the media as a hope of common man should beam a search light to various programmes and activities of Government at all levels so as to make them more accountable to people that elected them into office.
The respected Don advised Journalists irrespective of their medium to be more critical, factual, balance and constructive in their reportage so as to give hope to the people so that their voices can be heard. He urged them to avoid sensationalism in their different write – up and to investigate thoroughly the two sides of a story and engage in constructive criticism.
In conclusion, Professor Fagbohun asked Journalists not to bring the profession into disrepute by writing, broadcast or publish false information which can have negative effects on the Country and paint the nation in bad light in the eyes of International Communities.
The Chairman Lagos Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Mr. Adeleye Ajayi while welcoming the various guests at the Maiden Ramadan lecture said that Lagos NUJ implored all the fasting Muslims to seized the opportunity of the holy month to constantly prayed for the survival of Nigeria in this present economic challenges and for the country to assumed her rightful place in the committee of nations.
He urged Nigerians to also prayed for leaders, including President Bola Tinubu, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo – Olu and all other States Governors to achieve success and turn the economic fortunes of the country around for the betterment and benefits of the people.
The Lagos NUJ Boss implored ehvery Nigerians regardless of their tribe, colour, creed and political affiliations to live together as one big family in peace, love and harmony and achieve prosperity for the Country which we can bequeath to the generation yet unborn
The highlights of the Ramadan lecture was the presentation of Certificate of Awards of Appreciation to the Guest Speakers and all speakers for their participation. Prizes and Cash Awards were also presented by Lagos NUJ Officials to the winners of Quranic Competition in the Senior and Junior Male and Female categories.
