INEC DECLARES BOLA TINUBU AS WINNER OF LAST SATURDAY’S PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION

The Independent National Electoral Commission – INEC in the early hours of today declared the Candidate of the Ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the winner of last Saturday’s Presidential Election and the President – Elect of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Thus becoming the fifth Democratic Elected President. The Independent National Electoral Commission Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu who also doubled as the National Collating/ Returning Officer who made the announcement after all the entire results was collated at the National Collation Centre at the International Conference Centre in Abuja said Bola Ahmed Tinubu who scored a total vote cast of 8, 794, 726 and having scored the highest number of votes and satisfied the Constitutional Requirements is hereby Declared the Winner and Return Elected. Tinubu defeated three other Candidates, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party who polled 6,984, 520 came second. Peter Obi of the Labour Party with 6, 101,533 to placed third. While Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party came fourth with total number of 1,496,687 votes. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the President- Elect won majority of votes in 12 States made up of Ekiti State, Ondo State, Kwara State, Ogun State, Oyo State, Jigawa State, Borno State, Rivers State, Kogi State, Zamfara State, Niger State and Benue State and scored over 25 per cent of votes cast in 30 States more than the 24 States Constitutional required to be elected as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu after making the announcement said Certificate of Return for the President and that of the Vice President will be presented by 3pm today at the National Collation Centre inside the International Conference Centre in Abuja. In his Acceptance Speech shortly after he was declared the winner of the Presidential Election, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the President- Elect thanked all Nigerians for believing in his candidacy by electing as their President and also all those who have contributed in one way or the other to the success he achieved at polls. While assuring Nigerians that he will operate an all inclusive government called on all the Co – Contestants in the persons of Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, Peter Obi of the Labour Party and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party to join him to build a a United and prosperous Nigeria. He also assured Nigerians most especially the YOUTH that during his tenure as President he would concentrate and commit more funds to Education and that they would not experience any strike in our Universities and that four year course will be four year. He said he would also grant loans and grants to the students.
