The Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) popularly known as KAI on Monday effected the removal of 5 illegal occupants and 8 makeshift toilets beneath InEko Bridge at Ebute – ero areas of the State.
The Operation was used to consolidate existing efforts aimed at reducing the spate of environmental nuisance to the barest minimum in the metropolis.
According to the Corps Marshall of the Agency, Major Olaniyi Olatunbosun Cole (rtd) who led the dislodgement operation “The Elegbeta Water channel which spans the Lagos Lagoon right under the Eko Bridge around the Ebute – Ero axis turned home to miscreants, illegal occupants that occupied the water front are in the habit of promoting indiscriminate dumping of refuge into the lagoon, activating the base of the bridge as always criminal hideout and enjoying open defecation, urination, all this made us swung into action after 7 days abatement notice was served which was not adhered to.
Cole appreciated the Laudable leadership quality of the Honourable Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, stressing the mandate of the Agency is to maintain a cleaner and greener environment as enshrined in THEMES+ Agenda of the Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo – Olu remain paramount and sacrosant to the collective cleanliness of the State’s environment.
The Corps Marshall also sounded a strong warning to environmental defaulters who are always in the habit of dumping refuse indiscriminately into the drains and channels, erection of illegal structures on road setbacks, lay-bys, kerbs, medians, verges and the refusal of public and private premises to obtain a valid waste collection contract which he highlighted ss infraction and maintained that the law will take its due course and will deal decisively with flouters who disregard for the State’s environmental laws.
