*Education takes the lion share
Katsina State Governor, Mallam Dikko Umaru Radda on Monday, November 25, 2024 presented a budget proposal of 682, 244, 441,551.87 Naira to the State House of Assembly for approval.
The proposed budget is made up of 157, 967, 755, 024 . 36 Naira, representing 23. 15 % for recurrent expenditure and 524, 274, 694, 489 . 51 Naira, representing 76 . 85 % for capital expenditure.
The 2025 budget proposal represents a significant increase of 40% over the previous year’s budget, with education taking the lion share.
The budget breakdown to key sectors of the economy shows as follows: Education is allocated 95, 995, 873, 044 . 74 Naira representing 14% of the entire budget.
Agriculture and Livestock Development got 81, 840, 275, 739.70 Naira which represent 12% of the budget.
9, 684, 806, 758 . 86 Naira, representing 10% goes to Works, Housing, and Transport.
Rural and Social Development is allocated 58, 728, 146, 293 . 72 Naira representing 9% .
Water Resources got 53, 835, 521, 322 . 46 Naira representing 8% .
Environment is allocated 49, 885, 521, 999. 25 which represent 7% .
Health has 43, 881, 752 . 75 Naira representing 6% .
Internal Security and Home Affairs is allocated 18, 939, 508, 746 . 95 Naira representing 3% .
31% which made up of 230, 759, 902, 908 . 71 Naira goes to Other sectors of the economy.
In a statement by Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, his Chief Press Secretary, Governor Radda expressed satisfaction with the overall performance of the 2024 budget and disclosed key achievements of 2024 budgets to include: improved access to basic services, boosted Internally Generated Revenue ( IGR). Successful initiation and implementation of numerous projects across various sectors, contributing to the state development.
He also highlighted the government’s success in addressing security challenges, stating that bandits have been pushed to the fringes and normalcy has been restored to many local government areas. He paid tribute to security personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty, offered condolences to their families.
Governor Radda in a similar vein expressed optimism about the 2025 budget’s potential to drive economic growth and improve the lives of Katsina State residents. He emphasised that the 2025 budget is designed to build on the success of the previous year to further drive the development of the state.
The Governor acknowledged the contributions of development partners, civil servants and security personnel in the state’s development efforts and extended his gratitude to the Judiciary, the Executive Council, traditional rulers, religious leaders and security agencies
Governor Radda assured people of Katsina State that the government remains committed to their welfare and prosperity. While thanking members of the House of Assembly for their continue support, urged them to expedite the passage of the 2025 budget to enable the state government delivers on its promises to the people of Katsina.
The Speaker, Katsina State House of Assembly, Rt Honourable Nasir Yahaya Daura, assured the citizens that the 8th Assembly will conduct a thorough analysis of the 2025 Draft Budget by Governor Dikko Umaru Radda.
The Speaker commended the governor for presenting the 2025 Draft Budget dubbed the “BUDGET OF CONSOLIDATION” and for fostering a harmonious relationship between the legislative and the executive, and judicial arms of the government.
He assured that the Assembly will work collaboratively with the executive for a speedy passage and effective implementation of the 2025 Budget.
