Millions of Eligible voters will today 18th March 2023 will troops out in their large numbers to take part in the Governorship election in 28 States of the 30 States of the Federation, while the State Houses of Assembly election will be Conducted in all the 36 States including where governorship election will not hold. Governorship election in which 837 Candidates will slug it out among themselves will be held in the following 28 States namely in alphabetical order: Abia, Adamawa, Akwa – Ibom, Bauchi, Benue, Borno, Cross – River, Delta, Ebonyi, Enugu, Gombe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Kwara, Lagos, Nassarawa, Niger, Ogun,Oyo, Plateau, Rivers, Sokoto, Taraba,Yobe and Zamfara States. Eight States that will not participate in today’s governorship election are Anambra, Bayelsa, Edo, Ekiti, Imo, Kogi, Osun and Ondo in which off- season elections were held or due to previous litigations and Court Judgements. 10, 241 other will battle for 993 State Assembly seats in 1,021 Constituencies across the Country. Out of the 28 States, 17 Governors who have served out their two terms will not be returning they are Governors of Taraba, Benue, Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia, Cross – River, Delta, Akwa – Ibom, Rivers, Kebbi, Sokoto, Kaduna, Katsina,Kano, Jigawa, Plateau and Niger States. All this States Will be electing new Governors. Governors in eleven other States Comprising of Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Kwara, Zamfara, Gombe, Nassarawa,Yobe, Borno, Adamawa and Bauchi will be seeking re – election for a second terms in office. The Conduct of the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections will commence from 8.30am and runs till 2.30pm. Voters who are on the queues on or before 2.30pm will be allowed to vote. Registered voters are expected to be at their various before 8am in a coordinated manner. Voting starts at 8.30am.
